Day-1 Arrival in Guwahati
Get to Guwahati Airport, the entrance point of Northeast India. On arrival, I went sightseeing at Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary which is a lesser known but very rich ecologically situated area with a population of one-horned rhinos.
Take a jeep tour in wetlands and grasslands, where you will see migrating birds and countryside. Pobitora is also a small park with a close-up wildlife experience, which is not the case with other large parks. Then, later, arrive in a rural ecotourism lodge or homestay. Evening: Walk briefly around the village, mingling with other people and getting to know about the Assamese agricultural community. Old fashioned dinner and night stay near Pobitora.
-
Day-2 Pobitora to Majuli
In the morning have breakfast and then turn back to Guwahati and proceed to Majuli, across the great river Brahmaputra by ferry. Travelling is in itself a cultural experience, with the river scenes, fishermen on the job, and clear skies. Get settled in a cultural homestay or bamboo cottage. The religious center of Assamese Vaishnav culture is called Majuli. Go to ancient Satras (monastic institutions) where monks maintain the traditions of classical dance, music, mask-making and storytelling.
During the evening, take a walk through the river banks at sunset and observe the silence of the rhythm of life on the island. Overnight stay in Majuli.
-
Day-3 Majuli Discovery - Art, Culture, and Sustainability
Start the day with breakfast using locally produced products. Visit additional satras like Auniati and Samaguri Satra, which has its own handmade masks that are used in traditional performances. Tour in Mishing tribal villages to learn the practice of stilt houses, weaving, and sustainable fish culture. Discover how the community of the island adjusts to the floods that occur every year and maintains its cultural identity. In the afternoon time is free to cycle, take photographs or journal by the river.
Cultural interactions and folk shows in the evening as well. Overnight stay in Majuli.
-
Day-4 Ziro Valley Exploration
An early breakfast is followed by a picturesque drive to the Ziro Valley, which is a part of Arunachal Pradesh. The terrain is slowly turned into undulating green valleys, pine trees and terraced rice fields. On entering, book in a homestay or eco-resort. Ziro is the residence of the Apatani tribe that is characterized by unique systems of farming and a community-based way of life. During the evenings, go on a nice stroll in the villages around you, noticing the old houses and lifestyle. Overnight and dinner at Ziro. -
Day-5 Departure
Sightseeing of the cultural and natural attractions in Ziro Valley, after breakfast. Explore the Apatani villages to understand the way of life of the indigenous population, farming and bamboo work, and oral culture. Stroll in rice fields with mountains as the backdrop that provides a scenic and serene experience. Citizens and small markets producing handcrafted products can be seen later. With lunch, start your next adventure to Guwahati or Itanagar to leave with the memories of unadulterated landscapes, the welcoming communities, and a more relaxed lifestyle.
