About Pench

Pench, the “Land of Mowgli”, is one of the most fascinating wildlife destinations in Madhya Pradesh, renowned for its thick woods of teak, rolling hills, scenic rivers and amazing biodiversity. Pench is situated on the border between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra and is home to the famous Pench National Park, an integral part of the Pench Tiger Reserve. This area was said to be the setting for Rudyard Kipling's famous book The Jungle Book and is especially popular among wildlife and nature lovers. The park has a lovely tropical deciduous forest landscape, open grassland areas, bamboo groves and water bodies around the Pench River. It offers the Bengal tiger, leopard, Indian wild dog, sloth bear, gaur, deer and many other species of birds a natural habitat. Some highlights of the area are the magnificent Pench River, Turia Gate, Karmajhiri, Rukhad and Totladoh Reservoir. Pench is also home to a rich tribal culture and traditional villages, surrounded by peaceful forest environments. Pench is filled with an abundance of wildlife wonders to explore, offering visitors thrilling safaris in the jungles, the opportunity to admire majestic animals, scenic forest trails, and the natural beauty of the Satpura landscape.

Best Time to Visit Pench

The best time to visit Pench is from October to March when the weather is pleasant and the safaris, birding, nature photography and forest explorations are ideal. Winter is an ideal time to take a comfortable jungle tour and see many kinds of wildlife and migratory birds. The months from April to June are also a very favourite time for tiger safaris, as during this period they are more active towards water sources and thus the chances of seeing wildlife are also good. The forest is particularly picturesque during the monsoon season (July – September) when it turns into a dense green landscape. The main safari areas are however, mostly closed during this time to accommodate breeding season and park management. Availability and dates for opening safaris are subject to the seasonal regulations in the forest department.
