The Hampta Pass Trek in Himachal is an exciting adventure in the Himalayas, with 11 days of green forests and rugged, windy, barren landscapes of Lahaul. The highlights of this hike include the ever-changing scenes, the beautiful meadows, mountain streams, snow-covered trails and amazing high-altitude landscapes. The trek starts in Manali, where one can enjoy the beautiful Manali and get ready for the trek. The trail from Manali leads towards Jobra and Chika and then the trekking adventure begins. The path leads through woods, green fields, river valleys and finally leads to Balu Ka Ghera.
The most significant feature of the hike is Hampta Pass at about 4,270 metres. The dramatic scenery, from green Kullu Valley to the rugged and arid terrain of Lahaul, follows after crossing the pass. The trail then heads towards Shea Goru and Chatru. It also features a visit to the spectacular Chandratal Lake, the high-altitude lake which is surrounded by dramatic mountains. The Chandratal visit can be made from the Chatru side depending upon the road and weather conditions.
It is a perfect trek for adventure seekers, nature lovers, photographers and those who want a memorable Himalayan experience - mountain trekking, camping, scenic landscapes, and the unique beauty of Himachal Pradesh.

  • Day-1 Manali Arrival - Welcome to Himachal Pradesh +

    On reaching Manali, meet our representative. Transfer to your hotel and check in. Rest for a while, then explore the beautiful surroundings of Manali all day. It is possible to visit the local market (Mall Road or other places as per arrival time). This night may be relaxed at the hotel while preparing for the next day's hiking experience.

  • Day-2 Manali - Jobra - Chika +

    Following breakfast, take off on your trek towards Jobra, which is the starting point for the Hampta Pass Trek. Take in a scenic drive through beautiful Kullu Valley and mountain roads. On reaching Jobra, begin your first trek towards Chika. It passes through the beautiful forests and open meadows and follows along the stream Rani Nallah. The initial day of trekking is somewhat shorter and provides time to acclimate to the mountain environment. You can reach Chika and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

  • Day-3 Chika - Balu Ka Ghera +

    On the other hand, after breakfast, start walking towards Balu Ka Ghera. The path slowly rises through beautiful green meadows, mountain streams and rocky areas. The elevation rises, and views are increasingly dramatic, with towering mountains surrounding the valley. Depending on handicrafts or visiting nearby cafés. Also, this day offers extra flexibility due to any weather or mountain road delays to the bus stand or designated departure point of your onward journey.
    Bring back unforgettable memories of the Hampta Valley, Hampta Pass, the Chandratal lake, Himalayan views and the beauty of the season; you might also find some snow patches and waterfalls throughout the route. Visit Balu Ka Ghera, a gorgeous camping site in the midst of tall mountains. Take it easy and get ready for the difficult Hampta Pass the next day.

  • Day-4 Balu Ka Ghera - Hampta Pass - Shea Goru +

    Leave early after breakfast for the toughest, but most interesting day of the trek. The trail begins with a steep ascent towards Hampta Pass. The route is rocky, snowy at times and at high altitudes according to the season through which you travel. Hike to the summit of Hampta Pass – which is at about 4,270 metres. Take time to appreciate the amazing scenery and take some photos.
    Cross the pass and then start heading down to Shea Goru. The dramatic change in landscape as the verdant green environment of Kullu merges into the arid and rocky landscape of Lahaul. At the end of the strenuous day hike, arrive at Shea Goru and check in at the campsite.

  • Day-5 Shea Goru - Chatru +

    Post breakfast, start to head for Chatru. The track slowly descends through the magnificent scenery of Lahaul. Things are quite different to the green valleys of the earlier stages of the trek. Continue along to Chatru with the dramatic rocky mountains, the barren landscapes and flowing streams. On reaching Chatru, relax at the campsite and enjoy the beautiful mountain surroundings.

  • Day-6 Chatru - Chandratal Lake - Chatru +

    Post breakfast, set off on the road to the stunning Chandratal Lake (weather permitting and road conditions). Chandratal, or "Moon Lake", is a beautiful high-altitude lake with the surrounding rugged Himalayan mountains. Take a stroll around the lake and take in the tranquil landscape. Chandratal is one of the more memorable highlights of the route thanks to its bright blue waters and the magnificent mountain backdrop. Explore the lake, and then come back to Chatru to relax at the campsite.

  • Day-7 Chatru - Manali +

    Breakfast, after which you return on your way to Manali. Soak in the breathtaking landscape of Lahaul on the way to Manali. The trip offers stunning views of the mountains and valleys. On arrival in Manali, check into your hotel and relax after completing the main trekking adventure.

  • Day-8 Manali - Local Sightseeing +

    Post-breakfast, enjoy a relaxed sightseeing day in Manali. Explore popular tourist sites like Hadimba Temple, Manu Temple, Vashisht Village and the local markets. There's a place to enjoy some time in the cafes and shops along Mall Road as well. Head back to your hotel and unwind the night away.

  • Day-9 Manali - Solang Valley Excursion +

    After breakfast, head for a picturesque tour to Solang Valley. The valley is nestled among stunning mountains with views and a quiet Himalayan ambience. Take a little time to enjoy yourself and take pictures of the surrounding landscapes. Also, depending on the season, there may be some outdoor activities available at your own expense. Back to Manali in the evening and check in to the hotel.

  • Day-10 Manali - Leisure Day +

    Following breakfast, a free day in Manali. The day can be spent in the hotel relaxing, doing some shopping for Himachali handicrafts or visiting the nearby cafés. This day also offers extra flexibility in case of any weather and/or mountain road delays on the trekking day. Enjoy a dreamlike evening in the tranquil ambience of Manali.

    Get checked out of the hotel in the morning as per onward travel plans. Move to the bus stop or place of departure for your next bus trip.
