About Siliguri

Siliguri is a popular tourist spot in West Bengal and is known as the “Gateway to Northeast India”, which is one of the prettiest and most significant places in West Bengal, with scenic tea gardens, lush green forests, Himalayan views, wildlife sanctuaries, Buddhist monasteries and vibrant local markets. Siliguri is nestled in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas of the district of Darjeeling and is a prime entry point to the region of Darjeeling, Sikkim, Bhutan and the North East part of India. The city is located close to the banks of the Mahananda River and is surrounded by scenic landscapes, rolling tea gardens and thick forests, which makes it a great place for nature lovers and adventure lovers.
Apart from that, Siliguri is also renowned for its strategic position, traditional markets, multicultural existence and cultural heritage. Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary is another great attraction in the region, which provides a chance to explore the forest and nature and see elephants, deer, and a variety of birds. Other popular places of interest are the Bengal Safari, Salugara Monastery, ISKCON Temple, Hong Kong Market, Savin Kingdom and the scenic tea gardens around the city. The street food of Siliguri is also very tasty, and apart from that, Siliguri is renowned for its Nepali, Tibetan and Bengali cuisine. Whether you're enjoying wildlife safaris or tranquil monasteries, tea gardens or picturesque landscapes, shopping in bustling markets or immersing yourself in the rich culture of the foothills of the Himalayas, Siliguri promises a refreshing and memorable trip.

Best Time to Visit Siliguri

The months of October to March are the perfect time to visit Siliguri as the weather is pleasant for sightseeing, exploring tea gardens, visiting monasteries, enjoying wildlife experiences and discovering the surrounding nature. Bengal Safari and Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary offer special comfort during the winters (November-February) for exploring the natural beauty of the area. The weather is also clear at this time, providing fantastic long-distance views of the distant Himalayan ranges. Another great time of year to travel is the spring season (March-April) when temperatures are moderate and there is gorgeous natural beauty. The weather is very rainy during the monsoon season (June-September) and the surrounding forests and tea gardens are very green and attractive, but you may experience some landslides and disruption of road access to nearby hill destinations. Summers (April to June) can be hot and humid, but the nearby forests and foothills provide a nice opportunity for a hike in nature.
