About Satpura National Park

Satpura National Park is the “Hidden Gem of Central India”, which is one of the most beautiful wildlife sanctuaries of Madhya Pradesh , known for its rich biodiversity, rugged mountains, scenic river valleys, breathtaking waterfalls, and dense forests. Satpura National Park is part of Satpura Tiger Reserve and is situated in the Narmadapuram district, with the Satpura Mountain Range around it. The park was formed in 1981 and is celebrated for its wide variety of terrain, including deep valleys, sandstone peaks, narrow gorges, bamboo forests and beautiful water features. It supports a diverse animal population, including Bengal tigers , Indian gaurs, wild dogs, sloth bears, leopards, rare Indian giant squirrels, crocodiles, etc. The park is also a great place for birders, with over 300 species of birds recorded. Satpura offers some special safaris like walking safari, boat safari, canoeing and traditional jeep safari, unlike many other wildlife places. Its principal attractions include the beautiful Denwa River, Madhai, Churna and Tawa Reservoir. From enjoying thrilling jungle safaris and exploring dense forests to discovering scenic waterfalls and experiencing peaceful river cruises, Satpura offers an unforgettable wildlife and nature experience.

Best Time to Visit Satpura National Park

The best time to visit Satpura National Park is from October to March, when the weather is pleasant, making it a great time for wildlife safaris, birdwatching, nature walks and exploring the surrounding landscapes. Jeep safaris, boat cruises down the Denwa River and a visit to the park's wildlife are ideal for wintertime. Wildlife watching is also popular in April-June because the warmer temperatures tend to attract animals to water, thus increasing wildlife viewing opportunities. The forest is a beautiful sight during the monsoon season (July – September), and the countryside is particularly lovely. The main safari areas are normally closed during this time; however, there may be some activities in the buffer areas depending on forest department permission.
