Kushinagar
Kushinagar in eastern Uttar Pradesh is one of the most significant Buddhist pilgrimage sites in India, where Gautama Buddha is believed to have achieved Mahaparinirvana. The ancient city is also of great spiritual value for the Buddhist world and is part of the Buddhist pilgrimage circuit, together with Lumbini, Bodh Gaya and Sarnath. There are a number of significant archaeological and religious sites in Kushinagar, such as the Mahaparinirvana Temple, which features a large, impressive reclining Buddha statue that marks the Buddha's last breath. The site of the cremation of Buddha, the Ramabhar Stupa, is another important landmark of pilgrimage. The town is also home to several Buddhist temples and monasteries constructed by communities from Thailand, Japan, China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Tibet, providing it with a unique international flavor. The site is surrounded by serene nature and tranquil ambience, providing visitors a chance to witness Buddhist customs, meditation, architecture, and history. Whether visiting old stupas and temples, or exploring international monasteries, and spending quiet moments in serene surroundings, Kushinagar offers a meaningful trip to Buddhist heritage and spirituality.
