About Koraput

The "Kashmir of Odisha", Koraput is one of the prettiest places in southern Odisha, surrounded by mist-covered hills, green valleys, waterfalls, coffee plantations, ancient temples and the rich tribal culture. The region offers stunning natural beauty and a mild climate, attracting nature lovers, adventurers and cultural tourists alike due to its beauty and appeal. Koraput is the home of the highest peak of Odisha, Deomali, which offers grand vistas of rolling hills, green valleys and scenic views. Another prominent feature is the breathtaking Duduma Waterfall, which is formed by the Machkund River, and the sacred Gupteswar Cave Temple of Lord Shiva set in a natural limestone cave. The peaceful environs, coupled with its picturesque sunset views of the Kolab Dam and Reservoir, have made it a favourite among visitors. Koraput is also famous for tribal history, markets held every week, indigenous handicrafts and Kotpad handloom textiles. The aromatic coffee plantations, the traditional festivals of the tribes and the true local cuisine add to its allure. Whether you go for a hike through the green hills, admire breathtaking waterfalls or go to ancient cave temples, experience the tribal and cultural practices or enjoy the locally grown coffee, Koraput has it all.

Best Time to Visit Koraput

The season from October to March is ideal to visit Koraput as the weather is pleasant and comfortable for visiting the hills, waterfalls, temples, coffee plantations and tribal villages. Deomali Peak trekking, scenic drives across the Eastern Ghats, visits to Gupteswar Cave Temple and the rich tribal culture are best experienced during the winter season. The months of November to February are ideal for viewing spectacular sunrises from the Deomali and for visiting the coffee plantations and local markets of the tribes. During the monsoon season (July – September), it becomes a verdant green heaven and the waterfalls like Duduma pour down spectacularly, though some roads and trekking routes may be inaccessible due to the heaviest of rain. Generally warmer in summer (April – June), but the hill areas provide relatively pleasant mornings and evenings.
