Hemkund Sahib
Hemkund Sahib or Gurudwara Hemkunt Sahib is one of the most venerated Sikh pilgrimage destinations in India, located in the high Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand at an altitude of approximately 4329 metres. The place is encircled by magnificent snow-clad peaks and a clean glacial lake and is dedicated to the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. In Sikh tradition, Guru Gobind Singh Ji is said to have meditated at this place in his previous life and the place is mentioned in the Bachitra Natak. The trek to Hemkund Sahib is also one of the important parts of the pilgrimage, which is a tough trek from Govindghat and passes through the different Himalayan valleys, forests, waterfalls, and high-altitude landscapes. The Valley of Flowers National Park, located nearby, enhances the ecological beauty of the area, especially in summer when in flower. Hemkund Sahib is a popular pilgrimage site for people from all over India and the world, particularly in the summer months when it is easy to get to. Whether it's the scenic trek up the mountain and the visit to the sacred gurudwara, or the tranquil glacial lake and the surrounding Himalayan wilderness, Hemkund Sahib is an experience that is truly to be cherished.
Best Time to Visit Hemkund Sahib
Best time to visit Hemkund Sahib is from June to September, when the road to the pilgrimage is usually clear, and the Gurudwara is open. July to September is particularly beautiful as the surrounding Valley of Flowers is in bloom. The area is snowed for much of the winter, and is thus unattainable for several months. The monsoon season can see rainfall and landslides and visitors should be aware of the weather and routes before travelling.
