Gaurikund
Gaurikund is one of the important sites for pilgrimage in Uttarakhand and is the starting point of the trek to the temple of Kedarnath, which is one of the revered Shiva temples in India. The village is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas, nestled along the banks of the Mandakini River, which runs through the heart of the region. The village is surrounded by the dramatic landscapes of the mountains, forested slopes, and rushing streams. Gaurikund is also a religious site, and it is believed that Goddess Parvati performed penance here to attract Lord Shiva. Gauri Temple is also traditionally associated with the village, and the natural hot springs that made Gaurikund an important stopping point for pilgrims before embarking on the trek to the Kedarnath temple. It is now a vital place for pilgrims who make the journey to Kedarnath, which is about 16–17 km away. The trek from Gaurikund crosses through beautiful valleys of the Himalayas and significant resting spots like Jungle Chatti, Bheembali, Linchauli and the Base Camp of Kedarnath. Whether it's visiting ancient shrines and enjoying the tranquillity of the mountains, or starting the sacred trek to Kedarnath, Gaurikund promises an unforgettable mix of spiritual, natural, adventurous, and pilgrim experiences.
