Bathinda
Historically, Bathinda is one of the oldest cities of Punjab that has a rich history in the region and is blessed with many historical monuments and forts, a rich culture, and various other landmarks. Bathinda, also known as the “City of Lakes”, has grown from an ancient town to an industrial, commercial and cultural hub of southern Punjab. The city is intimately connected to the historic Qila Mubarak, a large fortress popularly believed to have an ancient origin and to have been associated with many historic eras of Indian history. Bathinda is also a place to see Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, one of the five Takhts of Sikhism, which is situated close by at Talwandi Sabo. Other tourist spots are Bathinda Lake, Chetak Park, Rose Garden and the temple complex of Maiser Khana. Its surrounding countryside mirrors the rural nature of Punjab, and its markets provide traditional dresses, handicrafts, sweets and local items. Travellers to Bathinda will find a blend of history, spirituality, nature, and regional culture, with many opportunities for exploration, including visits to historic forts and sacred sites, as well as the opportunity to experience some of the region's most beautiful lakes and enjoy its delicious Punjabi cuisine.
