Read storyBagdogra is a lovely town in the Darjeeling district of West Bengal, which is the gateway to the Eastern Himalayas, famed for its picturesque tea plantations, green forests, serene ambience and nearness to some of the most favoured hill stations in India. Bagdogra is an important tourist hub in the foothills of the Himalayas, as it has an airport that links travellers to beautiful places in North Bengal and Sikkim such as Darjeeling, Gangtok, Kalimpong, Mirik, etc. The surrounding area of the town has a very good mix of nature, culture, religion and adventure, despite the town's small size. The nearby Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, the Salugara Monastery, Coronation Bridge, the North Bengal Science Centre and the lovely tea gardens surrounding the town are popular destinations. The nearby hill stations of Darjeeling and Mirik are also renowned for their stunning mountain views, monasteries, tea plantations, and serene lakes. It is known for its rich cultural heritage, with Bengali, Nepali and Tibetan communities all playing a role in shaping its culture. Bagdogra is a wonderful place to visit, whether it's soaking up stunning tea gardens, indulging in scenic mountain drives, welcoming visits to tranquil monasteries, shopping at the local markets or sampling mouth-watering Himalayan cuisine.
The climate of Bagdogra is comparatively pleasant during the months of October to March, which is the best time for sightseeing, exploring tea gardens, visiting nearby attractions and enjoying outdoor activities. The winter season (from November to February) is especially pleasant for sightseeing in Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary, visiting local monasteries, and travelling to nearby places like Darjeeling, Mirik and Kalimpong. October and November are especially wonderful for enjoying monsoon season, with clear skies and pleasant temperatures. The spring months (March–April) are also suitable for exploring the surrounding landscapes and tea estates. The monsoon season (June–September) brings heavy rainfall and high humidity, while road journeys to nearby hill stations may be affected by landslides. Summers (April–May) can be hot and humid, making outdoor sightseeing relatively uncomfortable during the afternoon.
