Winter months (March to May) are the best time to spot dolphins in Chilika lake. Despite the sunny conditions, it's still a good time to catch up with the elusive Irrawaddy dolphins if you're traveling to Satapada as the water is still calmer than usual.

Indian citizens are not required to obtain a passport or special permission/Visibility Check permit to visit Port Blair. For hotel check-in all they have to provide is a valid Aadhaar Card or Voter ID (with a photo) as proof of ID documents issued by the government of India.

Chilika lake, Satapada is the best place for watching dolphins which is around 50 kms away from Puri. Be prepared to travel some 1.5 to 2 hours through the seascapes and countryside to get to the terminal.
