Bandhavgarh National Park

In 1968, Bandhavgarh was declared a park. It extends over an area of 105 km2. It has proved to be a park of immense biodiversity. It is also documented for its large population of tigers in India.

There are a number of attractions in the park, such as the jeep safari and the elephant safari. At Bandhavgarh Park Safari some of the lush greenery of the deepest forest areas with wildlife in the surrounding area will be covered. On the Elephant Safari, therefore the Jeep Safari, we get an insight into some of the most beautiful creatures and therefore the majestic king of the jungle.

Some of the main wildlife attractions include white tigers, Bengal tigers, leopards, sambar, muntjac, nilgai, wild boar, gaur, chausingha, chikara, Asian jackal, Bengal fox, Melursus ursinus, hyena, ratel, grey mongoose, leopard, Felis chaus, wild pig, spotted deer, etc. Bird species found here include the egret, Sarus’s crane, crested snake eagle, Milvus migrans, Egyptian vulture, black vulture, peacock, red gallina, dove, parakeet and Indian dogfish, as well as in Bandhavgarh Park. Among the reptiles found here are the cobra, viper, rat snake, krait, python, turtle and a kind of giant lizard.

Among the floral species found here are sal, saj, dharma, tendu Arjun, amla, palas, salai, mango, Jamun, babul, banyan, ber, dhok, dhak, jamun, khajur, flesh, bamboo madhuca, boswelia, etc.

It is located in the Vindhya Hills of Umaria District in Madhya Pradesh.

Getting to Bandhavgarh Park

Travelling to Bandhavgarh Park one can either fly from Delhi, Agra or Varanasi or travel by train to Khajuraho and Umaria respectively. A taxi can easily be booked from Khajuraho which takes about 7-8 hours to get to the entrance of Tala Park, moreover, which is considered to be the largest entrance to the park. However, the nearest airport is Khajuraho and therefore the nearest railway station is Umaria. From Umaria, it takes about 40 minutes to drive to reach the Heritage character.

When is the best time to go to Bandhavgarh Park?

From February to June is the best time to visit Bandhavgarh Park.

Hours of opening and closing of the park and the safari

From October 15 to June 30, Bandhavgarh Park remains open.

It is divided into four safari zones such as the Tala zone, the Magadhi zone, the Khitauli zone and thus the Panpatha zone.

During the morning, there are 25 safari jeeps in the Tala zone, in the Magadhi zone 66 safari jeeps, in the Khitauli zone 35 safari jeeps, and thus the Panpatha zone 35 safari jeeps.

During the afternoon hours, we have the same number of safari jeeps as the morning team.

Scheduled safari hours are from 6.30 am to 11 am during the months of October to February and from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm in the afternoon.

Between February and March, the morning schedule is from 6 am to 11 am and the afternoon schedule is from 3 pm to 6 pm.

While from April to June, the morning session hours are from 5.30 to 10.00 am and the afternoon session hours are from 4.00 to 7.00 pm.

Fees for safari and other expenses

Taking the Canter Safari will cost you Rs. 2400 for foreigners, which may involve 12 people, and Rs. 1200 for Indians.

There are limited rates for the Elephant Safari, which vary according to the season.

A jeep safari in the Tala area will cost Rs 5550 for Indians and Rs 7550 for foreigners. A jeep safari in the Magadhi area will cost Rs 4500 for Indians and Rs 6500 for foreigners. The fare in the Khitauli area is Rs 4450 for Indians and Rs 6450 for foreigners.

Important Guidelines for Visitors

Always carry a first aid kit.

Water bottles and rehydration fluids should be carried.

The safest way to see the tigers is on an elephant back safari.

Disturbance and loud voices are prohibited in the park.

Permitted within the park, photography is permitted, but the use of a flashlight is prohibited.

Visitors are required to wear warm clothing, jackets, gloves and silencers during the winter months to withstand the cold during morning safaris. In summer months, tourists prefer light-coloured clothing.
