Dandi Beach

Dandi Beach is probably one among the foremost prominent landmarks in Surat because it was a big site for one among the most important freedom struggles in India. In 1930, Gandhi undertook the salt satyagraha march protesting against British salt laws. He walked from Ahmedabad with a gaggle of followers that kept growing at each stage of his civil disobedience . At Dandi, he plucked a couple of saline mud and seawater, producing salt in protest against British monopoly on salt production. this easy act got much national support and is credited with breaking the rear of British Raj in India.
Today, the beach may be a popular weekend picnic spot and invites visitors to relax in beautiful surroundings. it’s among the cleanest beaches within the country that creates for an excellent picnic spot.

National Salt Satyagraha Memorial

“Next to air and water, salt is probably the best necessity of life.” -Mahatma Gandhi.
The ‘National Salt Satyagraha Memorial’, Dandi, Gujarat, India is conceived as an experiential journey recreating the spirit and therefore the energy of the 1930 Dandi March led by Gandhi and 80 of his fellow Satyagrahis, taking the visitors to the Monument step-by-step so as to visualise and understand the history of the historic Salt March and therefore the methodology of Satyagraha, which finally led to India’s Independence from British colonial rule. This project, endorsed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India is suggested by a High Level Dandi Memorial Committee (HLDMC) with IIT Bombay as a Design Coordination Agency.
