Gautama Buddha also known as Siddhārtha, Shakyamuni, or the Buddha laid the foundation of Buddhism. In India he found enlightenment. India boasts of having beautiful Buddhist monasteries and stupas. Nalanda, though disappeared in the 13th century, was once a world center of Buddhism. The various Buddhist pilgrimages in India attract a huge number of devotees from all round the world. What better place to visit than the holy Ganges, where most of the Buddhist pilgrimages are found. The feeling of eternity is always there and everywhere you turn your eyes you will find nothing, except rich heritage. In India the famous Buddhist spots are Bodhgaya, Nalanda, Rajgir, Sarnath, Sanchi stupa, Shravasti and cave temples of Ajanta and Ellora.It was in Lumbini where Lord Buddha was born and here you can find the ruins of the stupa and pillar by emperor Ashoka. Bodhgaya is the place where Buddha got enlightment under the Bodhi tree which seems to have an eternal life, sprouting even after being destroyed completely. The Mahabodhi temple and a monastic order looking after the three monasteries are things of interest here. Though Sarnath monasteries are in ruins now, they attract a lot of devotees. ITINERARY:
Day 01 Arrival at Delhi
The North India Buddhist Tour is customized to avail a perfect track to visit all the famous sites related to Lord Buddha’s lifespan in North India. First as you arrive at Delhi airport you will find our Central India Tours representative at your service, welcoming you he will direct you to a private car in which you will encompass the distance to your hotel booked for overnight stay in the national capital city. Upon arrival you will be served welcome drink and a brief about your Varanasi and Buddhist tour itinerary which begins the next day.
Day 02 Delhi – Lucknow (By Train/By Air) – Sravasti
Moving on with the tour you will leave either to board your train or flight to reach Lucknow on this morning. As you arrive in Lucknow you will be encompass a 170 km distance to Sravasti. Sravasti is also known as Sahet Mahet and is renowned for housing the supernatural feats showed by Lord Buddha. Stay overnight in a hotel at Sravasti booked previously by our Central India Tours tour operator in Varanasi.
Day 03 Sravasti – Lumbini
Relish your breakfast on this day and then proceed for a sightseeing tour of Sravasti, an erstwhile capital of an ancient kingdom of Kosala. Visit Jetvana Vihar and Buddhist temples here. After this quick visit you will then proceed to the next destination, Lumbini in Nepal. After encompassing a distance of 225 km you will reach the cultural capital of Nepal, Lumbini where you will be directed to a hotel booked under North India Buddhist Tour. Stay overnight at Lumbini henceforth.
Day 04 Lumbini – Kushinagar
Post breakfast guests will proceed for a sightseeing tour of Lumbini which is the place of birth of Lord Buddha. Guests will be taken on a tour to all the sites related to Buddha’s birth. Firstly pay a visit to the actual place of birth of the lord at Mayadevi temple followed by visit to Ashokan Pillar, Buddhist temples, Pushkarni the sacred pool, sanctum sanctorum of Buddha’s birth and various Buddhist stupas. Your Buddhist tour doesn’t end here as you are lead to another Buddhist place, Kushinagar situated at a distance of 161 km from Lumbini. Here you will be located to a hotel booked previously under your Buddhist tour in India and Nepal. Stay overnight here.
Day 05 Kushinagar – Varanasi
Relish your breakfast and then proceed for a sightseeing tour of Kushinagar. The Mahaparinirvana temple where Lord attained parinirvana will be first in the list of Buddhist attractions that you visit in Kushinagar. Also pay a visit to the place of cremation of Lord Buddha known as Ramabhar Stupa. Thereafter set for your drive to Varanasi where on arrival you will be located in a hotel for your overnight stay.
Day 06 Varanasi- Bodhgaya
On this day start your Varanasi tour by first enjoying a boat ride early morning to experience the ritual Aarti being conducted at the cemented stairs of Ganges river banks known as Ghats. You can view the devotees taking ritual bath in the holy river Ganga. Return henceforth to the hotel and relish your breakfast. Post breakfast your Varanasi itinerary will include a visit to Bharat Mata Temple, Benaras Hindu University and Vishwanath Temple and more. Later get on with a drive to Bodhgaya while paying an en route visit to Sarnath. Visit the main highlights at the place renowned for being the place where Lord Buddha preached his first sermon to the holy men. First visit the Buddhist temples, stupas here followed by visit to Archaeological Museum in Sarnath. Continue with the journey and on arrival at Bodhgaya check in the hotel booked for your overnight stay.
Day 07: Bodhgaya- Patna
The seventh day of your Buddhist tour to North India begins with a sumptuous meal which will be followed by a sightseeing tour of Bodhgaya where Lord attained enlightenment. First begin your tour with visit to Mahabodhi temple followed by visit to other famous monuments and structures related to life and belief of Lord Buddha and later of Buddhism religion. Later in the day start your journey to reach Patna and pay an en route visit to Rajgir and Nalanda.
Nalanda and Rajgir is the place of great significance for Buddhist and Jain devotees. First at Rajgir visit Gridhakuta Hill, Bimbisara Jail and other Buddhist monuments. At Nalanda visit the temples and stupas and then continue your drive to Patna where you will lodge in a hotel for night stay.
Day 08 Patna- Delhi- Departure
Post breakfast start your drive to railway station or the airport to reach Delhi. On arrival in Delhi guests will be welcomed by our Central India Tours representative. You can conclude your North India Buddhist Tour with enjoying a shopping spree at Connaught Place. In the evening our representative will escort you to the airport. You will bid goodbye to the land of Buddhism as you board your flight homewards.
